Ukrainian Parliament Proposes Major Pay Rise for Medical Staff, Setting a New Minimum Wage.
Proposal to Increase Medical Workers' Salaries
According to Novyny.live: A new legislative initiative in Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, seeks to significantly raise wages for healthcare workers. Draft Law No. 14357, which proposes amendments to the 'Law on the State Budget of Ukraine for 2026', aims to establish a minimum monthly salary of 40,000 hryvnias. This move is designed to provide medical professionals with fair working conditions and to improve overall healthcare funding. This proposal comes at a critical time for Ukraine's healthcare system, which has been under immense strain.
Key Provisions of the Draft Law
The proposed legislation would set a mandatory minimum salary of 40,000 hryvnias per month for medical personnel. The new wage rules are intended to apply broadly to:
- municipal non-commercial enterprises;
- medical institutions funded by the state budget;
- private healthcare facilities.
Specifically, the base salary for emergency medical service (ambulance) staff would be set at 35,000 hryvnias.
Additionally, the draft law eliminates a previously applied wage reduction coefficient for staff working in hospitals located near the front lines. The bill has been submitted for review to the Verkhovna Rada's Budget Committee. As MP Oleg Yudin stated,
“40,000 hryvnias is for all healthcare workers”. The government's draft state budget for 2026 also includes increased funding for emergency medicine, highlighting the priority of supporting medical personnel during the ongoing conflict. This initiative represents a significant effort to improve social standards for a vital workforce.
The proposed salary increase is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing Ukraine's healthcare sector. It could help address staffing shortages and improve the quality of medical services by making medical careers more financially sustainable, especially given the economic challenges of wartime.
