Ukraine's UN Envoy: Russia Drags Feet on Talks with Unrealistic Demands.
The War in Ukraine
According to UATV: Ukraine remains locked in conflict with Russia, where Moscow has failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives. Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, has stated that Russia is deliberately stalling negotiations by putting forward unrealistic conditions. He specifically pointed out that Moscow is demanding Ukraine surrender territories in Donetsk without a fight—areas that Russia has failed to occupy over 12 years of aggression.
Melnyk further accused Russia of intentionally obstructing the peace process. According to him, the Kremlin has invented new, seemingly unsolvable dilemmas to complicate the talks. He also revealed that Russia has abandoned the idea of a ceasefire to allow elections in Ukraine, a move that only deepens the deadlock.
International Efforts
On the diplomatic front, discussions between Kyiv and Washington recently took place in Florida. Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov, also took part in these talks. As the war grinds on, defining clear strategies for peace has become critical—yet, in Melnyk’s view, Russia continues to play a spoiler role in the negotiation process.
The atmosphere surrounding Ukraine-Russia negotiations remains tense, as Moscow keeps introducing fresh demands that make a peace deal harder to reach. It is worth noting that the international community continues to stand with Ukraine in its efforts to restore territorial integrity and ensure regional stability. With the conflict showing no signs of easing, stepped-up diplomacy and closer coordination with allies may prove essential in shaping what comes next.
