Monuments of 'SVO' are being erected in Russia with understanding
Since 2022, an increasing number of monuments dedicated to 'SVO' have been erected in Russia. They amaze with their variety: different shapes, symbols, but many people do not understand what they symbolize. This has been noted not only by BBC journalists, but also the monuments themselves remain mysterious to the public.
The first 'SVO' monuments appeared in Russia around May 9, 2022. The first was opened in Chuvashia, near the memorial to local soldiers who died in World War II. Over time, their number increased and by May 2025 reached 444. Even Tajikistan and South Ossetia have similar structures.
