The mayor of Lancaster in Southern California, Rex Parris, stated during a city council meeting that he wants to distribute free fentanyl to those in need. He believes it could help reduce the number of homeless people in the city.

I just want to give them free fentanyl. I want to give them everything they want.

The mayor made this statement after a local resident expressed her dissatisfaction with the authorities' plans to place homeless people on the grounds of an abandoned golf club near residential areas. At the same time, Parris clarified that he was referring not to all homeless people, but only to those he considers 'criminal elements' who have been released from prisons. He stated that such people account for 40-45% of the homeless and often engage in crimes.

However, the mayor explained that his statement about fentanyl was sarcastic and he did not intend to implement it. He noted that the drug is already easily accessible on the streets.
