City Mayor in Ivano-Frankivsk Region Apprehended
According to TSN.ua: A mayor in the Ivano-Frankivsk region was detained by law enforcement while accepting the final installment of a bribe exceeding 230,000 hryvnias. This arrest culminated a lengthy undercover operation targeting the official for illicitly facilitating the transfer of three land plots.
Case Details
According to the investigation, the first bribe installment of $2,000 was received in July 2025. The mayor then accepted a further $1,600 after a lot was posted on a government website. Following an entrepreneur's victory in the subsequent auction, the official demanded an additional 100,000 hryvnias. His arrest occurred in his own office during the handover of this fourth payment. This case is part of ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Ukraine, which are closely monitored by international partners.
During the detention, officers seized approximately half a million hryvnias in various currencies—including the illicit funds—along with mobile phones, documents, and other evidence. The official has been formally notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison with property confiscation.
This incident highlights persistent corruption issues within local government and underscores the critical importance of combating such crimes. In the current political climate, detentions of this nature may serve as a warning to other officials about the necessity of lawful and transparent conduct. Furthermore, demonstrating the effectiveness of such operations can help bolster public trust in law enforcement agencies.
