Ukraine Abolishes 'Limited Fitness' Status: Do Citizens Need to Undergo Medical Boards on Their Own?.
End of 'Limited Fitness' Status in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine has scrapped the 'limited fitness' designation for citizens who are required to undergo a repeat military medical commission, though they are not obligated to do so independently. This change stems from recently adopted legislative amendments.
Previously, individuals labeled 'limited fit' were mandated to complete a follow-up medical board within a legally specified timeframe. Those failing to comply risked being placed on a wanted list. However, this administrative search has been suspended until June 2026, easing the burden on these individuals.
Requirements for Undergoing the Military Medical Commission
It is worth noting that the Verkhovna Rada passed a mobilization bill for former 'limited fit' individuals in 2024, but the document has yet to be signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“There will be no sanctions specifically for this offense,” stated Yuriy Ayvazyan, commenting on the situation.
Despite the status cancellation, citizens are still obliged to attend a repeat military medical commission if they receive a summons or referral from Territorial Centers for Recruitment (TCCs).
“You have no independent obligation to go. But if summoned or referred by a TCC, you must undergo a repeat medical board,” Ayvazyan emphasized.
Thus, the legal changes allow individuals with 'limited fitness' status to avoid administrative penalties, yet the requirement to undergo a medical examination when necessary remains in effect.
These legislative shifts could significantly impact Ukraine's mobilization landscape by reducing the administrative burden on those previously deemed 'limited fit.' However, despite the status abolition, the obligation to attend military medical commissions persists, potentially raising concerns among those who receive summons. Amid ongoing military conflicts, monitoring further legal developments and their societal impact remains crucial.
