Mercedes-AMG sets record: 1000 kW charging for electric vehicle in half a second.
According to Korrespondent.net: Mercedes-AMG is making significant strides in charging technology
Mercedes-AMG has announced an important achievement: the concept car AMG GT XX has set a charging speed record, exceeding 1 megawatt. According to ArenaEV, the record was set at an experimental charging station, where the vehicle reached a peak power of 1041 kW just half a second after the charging began.
Impressive achievements in charging
The vehicle maintained a charging level of over 1000 kW for two and a half minutes, passing a current of 1176 amps. This allowed the system to deliver 17.3 kWh of energy in just one minute – enough to add 125 km of range. This allows for a total of 500 km in just four minutes.
Collaboration to achieve the record
This record was made possible through the joint efforts of Mercedes-AMG, the Mercedes-Benz Charging Unit, and Alpitronic. They developed an innovative charging station by combining Megawatt Charging System technology, originally designed for electric trucks, with a liquid-cooled CCS cable, the standard for passenger cars in Europe.
The future of charging
In 2026, the company plans to deploy a network of high-speed charging stations across Europe and North America.
It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that this concept car from Mercedes AMG traveled the length of the equator in seven days.
