Meta refuses to sign the EU AI code: what it means for Ukrainians.
The company Meta has refused to sign the EU code on artificial intelligence less than a month before its implementation. Meta's director of global affairs, Joel Kaplan, explained his decision by stating that the code creates uncertainties for developers and goes beyond the legislation on artificial intelligence.
'Europe is going down the wrong path on artificial intelligence,' Kaplan stated.
The code requires the implementation of necessary processes to comply with the legislation, such as updating documentation on AI services and prohibiting the use of pirated content for training models.
Kaplan believes that the EU's approach is excessive and may harm the development of AI in Europe and local businesses. Previously, Meta invested in 'superintelligence' and hired a key artificial intelligence specialist from Apple.
The unwilling company Meta refused to sign the EU code on artificial intelligence, explaining this by legal uncertainties and restrictions that may hinder the development of this technology in Europe. At the same time, Meta continues to make investments in the development of artificial intelligence by hiring key specialists in the field.
