According to ТСН: Ukraine has enough resources to address the issue of Transnistria, which remains a source of Russian influence and threat. However, this solution is linked to a complex geopolitical situation, not just military forces.

Head of the GUR Kyrylo Budanov commented on the threat from the unrecognized 'republic' and the possibility of its liquidation in an interview.

Despite the successes of pro-European forces in Moldova, Transnistria remains a 'preserve' of Russian influence that Moscow has maintained for over 30 years.

'It will not disappear by itself'

Budanov expressed doubts about attempts at peaceful reintegration of Transnistria, which have been ongoing for many years. He believes that currently, the comparison of forces between Moldova and the Russian Federation in this region is not in favor of Chisinau.

'It [the enclave "PMR" — ed.] will not cease to exist. What conditions are there for this?.. Whether we want it or not, we have to compare Moldova with the Russian Federation and their forces against each other,' he noted.

Radical solution

Budanov confirmed that even after many years of war, Russia continues to control Transnistria.

'They maintain their grouping, everything is good for them there,' said the intelligence officer.

At the same time, he stressed that this Russian garrison poses a threat that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can eliminate.

'We can solve this issue if we take it on. To solve it radically. But is it necessary to do so? Here geopolitical questions begin to arise,' Budanov emphasized.

In response to a journalist's direct question about the feasibility of such a scenario, the head of the GUR replied: 'I will refrain from answering.'

It should be noted that Russia is actively discussing the possibility of attacking Ukraine from Transnistria.

Thus, the situation in Transnistria remains dangerous for Ukraine, as Russia's control over this region continues to impact stability in Eastern Europe. Budanov's interview underscores the need for careful analysis and action planning in response to this challenge, which could have serious consequences for the security of Ukraine and its neighbors.
