‘We cannot catch everyone’: The Prosecutor General commented on cases of illegal border crossing.

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin at the forum “Ukraine 2024. Independence” reported over four thousand cases of illegal border crossing. He noted that some people manage to leave the country before receiving a suspicion or even after it. Kostin stressed that Ukraine must close the border as any suspected person can flee to another country.The prosecutor gave an example of a deputy who fled abroad illegally before receiving a suspicion. There were also cases when deputies fled after the announcement of suspicion.Kostin noted that so far the only country that returns illegal border crossers is the country that borders Ukraine. Negotiations are ongoing with other countries about the return of illegal crossers.The prosecutor emphasized that it would also save people’s lives as they would not attempt to swim across a river if they knew they would be returned to Ukraine.Let’s recall, the Prosecutor General established how the People's Deputy Dmytruk illegally crossed the border and also has information about the country where he is located.The prosecutor stressed that the criminal case against Dmytruk was started immediately after receiving information about the illegal border crossing.
