Civilians Returned to Ukraine in Exchange

According to Novyny.live: Seven Ukrainian civilians, unlawfully held by Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion, have been brought home. This release was made possible through humanitarian coordination with the Russian side. The freed Ukrainians range in age from 35 to 66 and were detained in various parts of the country, including Mariupol, as well as the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Luhansk regions. For context, many such detentions occurred in occupied or contested areas where civilians were taken without legal cause.

Among those released is a person abducted in the Bucha district and a man seized on the very first day of the full-scale war. The group also includes a volunteer from the 'Angels of Taira' brigade. This exchange follows a recent prisoner swap on June 26, which saw 160 Ukrainian defenders returned to their homeland.

Support for the Freed Citizens

Dmytro Lubinets, a state official, stated:

“The state will provide the released individuals with the necessary support and protection of their rights.”
This underscores Ukraine’s commitment to aiding its citizens who have endured severe hardship due to the conflict. The return of these civilians marks a crucial step in restoring their rights and freedoms.

This event highlights the critical role of humanitarian exchanges amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Restoring the rights and freedoms of those freed remains a top priority for Ukrainian authorities, reflecting the state’s dedication to protecting its people even under the most challenging circumstances. For families and loved ones still waiting, the return of these civilians also serves as a beacon of hope.
