Microsoft pays for quitting Chrome: how to earn 1300 points

According to Korrespondent.net: Microsoft has announced the launch of a new initiative in which Windows 11 users can earn up to 1300 bonus points in the Microsoft Rewards program if they quit the Google Chrome browser and switch to Edge, as reported by Windows Latest.

When users try to download Google Chrome using the Edge browser through the Bing search engine, they are shown an ad encouraging them to stay on Edge and earn rewards. The ad states that Edge is a 'safer' choice, and the accumulated points can be redeemed for gift cards or donated to charities.

Although Microsoft Rewards does not allow points to be directly exchanged for cash, they can be used to obtain Amazon gift cards, access to Spotify Premium, Roblox, or extend a Windows 10 license until October 2026.

Ads offering points only appear when searching for Google Chrome; similar ads do not appear when searching for other browsers like Opera, Firefox, or Brave. Additionally, the ads do not activate for new AI-supported solutions like Comet from Perplexity or Atlas from OpenAI.

It is important to note that the opportunity to earn rewards is not available to all users and is likely dependent on the user's residence region.

Earlier, it was reported that Microsoft is limiting the ability to install Windows 11 without access to the internet.

This initiative from Microsoft aims to encourage users to quit a competing product, potentially increasing its audience. The essence of the campaign is to draw attention to the advantages of Edge and secure new users, even though earning bonus points is usually associated with terms and conditions.
