Russian Ministry of Defense presses Putin to announce a new mobilization
The Ministry of Defense of Russia is pushing Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to announce a new wave of mobilization to bring in additional troops and compensate for Kremlin losses on the battlefield in Ukraine, according to the American publication The Wall Street Journal.
At the beginning of 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense proposed to carry out mobilization before Putin's 'inauguration', but he refused, leaving only volunteers signing contracts. In July, Putin doubled the payments for recruits, however, according to Wall Street Journal sources, the Russian Ministry of Defense again faced a shortage of manpower and could not organize a counteroffensive in the Kursk region.
According to the article, it is emphasized that the pressure to conduct another wave of mobilization is increasing due to the large number of war casualties in Ukraine, reaching one million. In addition, the Kremlin fears that this may disrupt the Russian society's perception of the war and create political risks for Putin himself.
