The US Justice Department warned Elon Musk's political committee America PAC that his lottery for registered voters in "key" states, whose winners are paid $1 million each, may violate federal law. CNN reports this.

According to sources, one of the Justice Department's divisions, which investigates potential violations of election laws, has already sent the corresponding letter to Musk's committee.

Musk Supports Trump

It is noted that on the eve of the elections, Musk joined the campaign for former President and now candidate for the White House from the Republican Party Donald Trump. He also spends millions of dollars supporting his candidacy.

Recently, the billionaire businessman announced a $1 million payout for signing a petition from his political committee America PAC, which is aimed at increasing voter registrations in "key" states.

Musk's promise to pay money to registered voters raised concerns among election law experts and some officials, as it may contradict the law.

Federal law in the US prohibits paying people money for registering to vote in elections.

The text of the petition contains the promise of paying $1 million to people selected randomly for signing a petition in support of the First Amendment to the US Constitution (about general freedoms of US citizens) and the Second Amendment (that the right of the people to keep and bear arms should not be infringed).

However, to sign the petition itself, people must already be registered voters in certain states.

Recall that the American billionaire businessman Elon Musk announced that he would pay $1 million daily to a random voter who signed the petition of his pro-Trump committee America PAC in support of amendments to the US Constitution.

It was previously known that the head of SpaceX, Tesla, and owner of the platform X, billionaire Elon Musk, has secretly funded a conservative political group in recent years – even before openly supporting the re-election of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. This was reported by Reuters, citing informed sources.

The US presidential election will take place on November 5.
