President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to coordinate diplomatic steps amid contacts with Washington. Kyiv seeks to end the war on fair terms and relies on a consolidated position of a united Europe.

Why the EU's position is crucial for peace negotiations

During the conversation, Zelensky thanked von der Leyen for her consistent support.

I spoke with the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and am very grateful for her support. I informed her about our conversation with President Trump, about the existing diplomatic possibilities. Ukraine aims for a real and fair end to this war, and it is important for us that all free Europe is with us on this path

The president emphasized that the European Union must be involved in all formats of negotiations regarding Ukraine and will play a key role in post-war recovery.

The European Union will also be very significant for the reconstruction of our country after the war, and this is one of the largest economic projects for all of Europe in decades. So the voice of Europe will resonate in diplomacy. Thank you!

During the conversation, the leaders discussed the progress of negotiations regarding Ukraine's EU membership, possible financial mechanisms for reconstruction, and further strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia. Kyiv hopes that the joint position of Brussels and Washington will create additional conditions for a quick and fair peace.

Let us remind you that the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted that the European Union possesses sufficient financial resources to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, and assured that this support is fully in line with NATO standards.

Earlier, we also informed that Ursula von der Leyen appealed to the Hungarian government with a call to lift the ban on holding Budapest Pride, emphasizing that a member state must respect the EU's fundamental values regarding human rights and freedoms.

Guided by Ukraine's interests, President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed important aspects of cooperation with the European Commission, emphasizing the importance of peace negotiations and support from all EU member states. He highlighted the importance of a united EU position in resolving conflicts and restoring peace in Ukraine.
