Starmer urges Trump to support Ukraine militarily

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Donald Trump at the White House to discuss the need for American military aid to ensure peace in Ukraine. According to the Financial Times, Starmer will try to convince Trump that Russian aggression will be contained. During the negotiations, including a personal conversation and a joint lunch, Starmer will seek to convince the American president that Europe will strengthen its defense capability and provide ground troops to ensure peace in Ukraine.

Starmer also expects 'insurance support' from the U.S. for European stabilization forces in Ukraine, including air cover, transport aircraft, reconnaissance, and missile systems. He believes that without such support, Putin may attempt to invade Ukraine again. Starmer acts as a mediator between Europe and the Trump administration, trying to avoid a rift in the alliance's relations regarding Ukraine's future.

Ahead of the meeting at the White House, Starmer announced plans to increase Britain's military spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, amounting to 6 billion pounds sterling. This move indicates Starmer's intention to lead a European rearmament program and is a signal to Trump about this intention.
