Russian Attack and Its Consequences

According to Espreso.tv: The Republic of Moldova has condemned the crash of a Russian drone on Romanian territory as an aggressive act by Moscow. The incident occurred on May 29 in the city of Galați, where the unmanned aircraft crashed onto the roof of a multi-family house. A fire broke out due to the impact, injuring two people.

In response to this incident, Romania ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in Constanța and declared the Russian consul general a persona non grata. Romanian President Nikușor Dan presented parts of the combat drone on May 31 to underline the seriousness of the situation. However, the Romanian Ministry of Defense could not confirm that the drone had been previously hit by Ukrainian air defense.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns this act and emphasizes that such actions are a direct consequence of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.” – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv is ready to support Bucharest in this situation in any necessary way. The incident further illustrates how much the hostilities in Ukraine strain relations between Russia and its neighboring countries.

Regional Tensions and Neighbors' Reactions

The incident highlights the growing tension in the region, as the countries bordering Ukraine increasingly need to respond to Russian actions that threaten their security. Romania and Moldova, which share similar interests in security matters, could enhance their cooperation to counter potential threats from Russia. Romania's response also shows that NATO countries are closely monitoring developments in the region, which may influence their future security strategies.
