The incident occurred during the first half when Palmer, having accidentally found himself in an awkward situation, reached out to the referee and began to wipe his nose.
Goals from Trevoh Chalobah and two from Harry Kane gave Bayern the victory in this game.
Feedback from Palmer
Palmer attracted fans' attention not only with his goal but also with the funny situation. When referee Jose Maria Sanchez approached him, the camera captured their conversation in which the referee subtly pointed to Palmer's nose.
Realizing his mistake, the footballer wiped his nose and received a small sign of approval from the referee, preparing to resume play.
Many fans found this situation amusing. One fan praised the referee's professionalism: 'That's actually very nice of the ref! Sometimes you have something on your face, and people just look and say nothing.'
Another commentator joked that the referee pointed it out because of the large number of spectators, noting: 'The conference referee would have left it, as no one would have been watching that closely.'
According to Palmer, this incident bothered him less than the outcome of the match, and he expressed dissatisfaction during the match with his teammates.
'We started well, had early chances to score, but when you make mistakes at a high level, it's always hard to come back,' he said in a comment for TNT Sports.
'The coach told us he knows we can compete. It's a good lesson for today, and it's nice to be back in competition, but we need to keep recovering from now on.'
The footballer also emphasized that he didn't know what happened in the second half of the game: 'We don't come here to be a training platform. Today we showed that we can compete.'
