The Disappearance of Revel Balmain: New Witnesses May Uncover the Mystery After 31 Years

According to The Sun: Looking at photographs of her younger sister, Suelen Simpson can't hold back her tears, asking herself what her life might be like now. Instead of fulfilling her dream of becoming a model and dancer, Revel Balmain's life, which likely ended tragically, has been a source of heartbreak. But the possibility of learning the truth about her disappearance may be closer than ever.

The Disappearance of Revel

22-year-old Revel was featured on the cover of Oyster magazine before she disappeared over three decades ago in Sydney, Australia. Her sister Suelen believes she was murdered.

Suelen is still searching for answers about what happened to her beloved sister. Revel vanished without a trace on November 5, 1994, just one day before a dance tour in Japan was set to begin.

She had been moonlighting in an escort service to make quick money, and Suelen fears her disappearance may be related to this. At the same time, she believes the police at the time did not conduct a proper investigation, as they considered that work disgraceful.

Despite the fact that the model's body was never found and no charges were filed, the police are convinced she became a victim of murder.

After 31 years of suffering, Suelen hopes that two witnesses set to testify at the final inquiry next year can shed light on this case.

“All I ever wanted was the truth.”

Suelen is outraged by the delays in conducting the final inquiry, scheduled for next February after interviews took place last year.

Findings of Evidence

Revel looked like a happy 22-year-old girl who had just appeared on the cover of Oyster magazine. After spending that evening with Gavin Summer, an avid surfer, she was supposed to meet friends but never showed up. Summer, who claimed to have left Revel at the nearest pub, became the prime suspect when some of her belongings were found near his home.

Among the found items was one of her shoes, which was discovered in a trash bin, her diary in a ditch, and keys found on the roadside.

The tragedy is that her passport and ticket to Japan remained packed at home and were never used.

NSW Police

Summer escaped liability, as the police found no evidence linking him to Revel's case and did not discover any suspicious motive.

The 1999 inquiry concluded that the dancer died 'at the hands of an unknown person or persons,' and the case remained in the cold case division.

Revel's parents, Ian and Ivor, passed away without ever learning the fate of their daughter. However, since 2020, her case has been revisited with new hopes.

Suelen believes that King and Stanojevic can help clarify Revel's last hours, as they knew where she was at the time of her disappearance.

Who Was the Main Suspect?

Gavin Summer became the police's suspect after Revel's disappearance. He was 26 years old when he ordered her to his home in Kingsford, southeast Sydney.

As Revel did not appear for the meeting with friends, Summer claimed he had left her at the pub around 7 PM. Although his identity became a subject of interest, any possible involvement in Revel's disappearance was dismissed. During the court proceedings, it became known that the police did not conduct a thorough search of Summer's house, and his car was not examined for nine days.

Witness accounts include information about people hearing a woman's scream and the sound of a fleeing car in the Kingsford area where Revel disappeared.

“I miss her and what could have been.”

Suelen noted that in such cases, investigations are often 'assessed by the potential for resolution,' which may distort the facts. “Time is a critical factor in unsolved cases; some witnesses may no longer be alive to testify.”

The memory of Revel must remain alive, as her life, filled with opportunities and dreams, was cut short far too soon. Suelen hopes that one day the truth will be known.
