According to Korrespondent.net: The CES 2026 exhibition showcases the rapid development of the wireless communication industry. Wi-Fi 8 has already become available in the form of initial products, including routers and chips, although most users have not yet transitioned to Wi-Fi 7. This indicates that the upgrade of network equipment may again lose relevance for those who are just planning to make their choice.

Unlike previous versions, Wi-Fi 8 focuses not on maximum speed but on connection stability. The new standard supports the bandwidth and peak speeds of Wi-Fi 7 but promises to improve efficiency, reduce latency, and ensure better performance in real-world conditions, particularly during device movement, at a great distance from the router, or with a significant number of connections. This should lead to fewer connection dropouts, more stable streaming, and a better gaming experience.

New developments and concepts

One of the most notable devices is the Asus ROG NeoCore concept router presented by the company. Last year, they surprised with an aggressive design, and now they have showcased a polyhedral device without external antennas. As Asus notes, the serial version will maintain the speeds of Wi-Fi 7 but will have higher bandwidth and lower latency due to optimized data exchange.

Additionally, Broadcom announced a set of components for Wi-Fi 8: the BCM4918 processor and two radio modules, BCM6714 and BCM6719, designed for home routers and operator gateways. MediaTek also announced a new line of Filogic 8000 chips that will appear in flagship devices, including smartphones, laptops, televisions, and smart home solutions. The first products based on these chips are expected to arrive by the end of the year.

Status of the Wi-Fi 8 standard

However, the Wi-Fi 8 standard has not yet been approved. According to the current IEEE schedule, final ratification is planned for 2028. Therefore, the first routers will operate on a draft version of the specification and may require software updates after the final adoption of the standard.

Let us remind you that earlier there were discussions about the implementation of new high-speed Wi-Fi technology in Ukraine.

New achievements in Wi-Fi technology showcased at CES 2026 indicate the ongoing progress in the field of wireless communication. Although the final approval of the standard is still ahead, new solutions are already emerging that could significantly enhance the user experience. This indicates that the world of technology is continuously evolving, responding to consumer needs and new challenges in the field of communication.
