Volyn Court Sentences Viber Group Admin for Leaking Military Recruitment Center Movements.
Viber Group Administrator Sentenced
According to Novyny.live: A man in Ukraine's Volyn region has been sentenced to five years in prison for administering a Viber group that shared information on the movements of Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs). The group, named 'УВАГА POLICIA', had a significant reach with 4,437 users, facilitating the potential spread of sensitive operational details. This sentencing reflects Ukraine's stringent laws against actions perceived to compromise national security during wartime.
The court's ruling, however, suspends the actual imprisonment for a two-year probationary period. During this time, the convicted individual must report regularly to a probation authority as a condition of his sentence. Furthermore, the court ordered the confiscation of his mobile phone and SIM card, underscoring the severity with which the offense is viewed.
A Wider Pattern of Enforcement
This case is not isolated. In the Poltava region, two other men were detained for similar activities involving Viber alerts about military TRC movements. Additionally, a man in Bila Tserkva received a suspended sentence for obstructing mobilization efforts. These incidents highlight an ongoing crackdown on the unauthorized disclosure of information that could potentially harm the country's defense capabilities.
These prosecutions form part of a broader governmental effort to combat informational threats to national security. The cases demonstrate the authorities' focus on stricter control over the dissemination of data related to military logistics, a critical concern amid the ongoing conflict. Ukrainian law enforcement continues to implement measures to prevent such violations and protect state interests from potential internal threats.
