NABU Director Accuses Law Enforcement of Spying on Anti-Corruption Agents.
Pressure on NABU Detectives
According to Novyny.live: During a press briefing on the 'Results of NABU and SAP in the Second Half of 2025,' the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Semen Kryvonos, reported that his detectives are facing intense pressure. He detailed instances of illegal surveillance and attempts to compromise staff. This comes as Ukraine's anti-corruption agencies, established after the 2014 revolution, face persistent resistance from entrenched interests.
Semen Kryvonos revealed that surveillance equipment had been discovered, installed illegally, in the apartment of a NABU employee. He emphasized:
“In the apartment of the head of a unit investigating corruption in the defense sector, electrical work was done just a few weeks ago, and representatives of law enforcement agencies absolutely illegally installed their own equipment there.”The NABU director expressed outrage at these tactics, stating:
“This is a disgusting way of obtaining evidence, violating the secrecy of private life.”
Kryvonos added that over the last three weeks, provocative materials targeting NABU detectives have begun to circulate. He noted:
“I have déjà vu, because a new wave of the same filth has started on the same Telegram garbage dumps about the same detectives.”This pattern raises serious concerns about coordinated efforts to discredit Ukraine's key anti-corruption bodies and their personnel.
Challenges for the Anti-Corruption System
Consequently, the pressure on NABU detectives—manifesting through illegal surveillance and the dissemination of compromising materials—threatens not only the bureau's operations but also the broader fight against corruption in Ukraine.
The situation described by the NABU director highlights severe challenges confronting Ukraine's anti-corruption framework. Such illicit pressure tactics risk reducing detectives' effectiveness in investigating corruption cases and eroding public trust in these vital institutions. As the fight against corruption remains a cornerstone of Ukraine's reform agenda, ensuring the security and independence of its anti-corruption structures is crucial for achieving lasting progress.
