Fedorenko previously held a role at PJSC Ukrnafta and, from 2015 to 2023, served as commercial director of JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya.

Fedorenko also demonstrated civic commitment by volunteering in the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2022 to 2023. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the appointment, stating:

“Naftogaz’s independent supervisory board unanimously appointed Sergey Fedorenko—a highly skilled professional—to lead the company for a specified period.”
