Ivano-Frankivsk Church Will Be Heated with an Innovative Heating System
The Church of Saints Volodymyr and Olha in Ivano-Frankivsk will be heated with an innovative heating system that uses the city's wastewater heat. This not only saves money on heating but also reduces electricity costs threefold. This is reported by the UGCC Bureau on Ecology.
The idea to install an innovative system in this church was proposed by Yevstakhiy Kryzhanivsky, the former rector of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. In 2021, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the higher educational institution, the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese, and the UGCC Bureau on Ecology. Work funding was carried out by philanthropists.
The TN-100 heat pump uses the heat from a nearby sewer collector to heat the church. The pump is located in a designated room that needs to be connected to the power grid. According to Yevstakhiy Kryzhanivsky, this pump does not require much electricity to operate but has higher productivity. According to scientists' calculations, the heat pump can provide up to 400 kW of thermal energy using 100 kW of electrical energy.
As a result of using this innovative system, the church will consume three times less electricity than under normal conditions and will not emit greenhouse gases, which meets the European Union's environmental requirements. This is noted by Yevstakhiy Kryzhanivsky.
The project was presented to the head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, on August 3. He noted that this unique project will not only improve the church's energy efficiency but can also be extended to other institutions and buildings.
According to Professor Volodymyr Sheremeta, head of the UGCC Bureau on Ecology, the project will help reduce financial costs for heating the church and will become environmentally friendly by reducing energy expenditures 3-4 times.
The rector of the University of Oil and Gas, Ihor Chudyk, proposed creating several solar power stations so that the church would also become energy independent.
The Church of Saints Volodymyr and Olha was built on Vovchynetska Street in Ivano-Frankivsk in 2021. Previously, the building was heated using two electric heaters and one gas heater, which operated from cylinders.
It is worth noting that the parishioners of the villages of Svitylne, Hrebelky, and Kulazhyntsi received confirmation of their joining the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
