The Lithuanian president called on the EU to determine a date for Ukraine's accession to the Union

Gitanas Nauseda, the President of Lithuania, proposed the initiative to set an exact date for Ukraine's accession to the European Union and to open the first negotiation clusters as early as September. He presented this proposal during an online meeting of the heads of the European Council, as reported by FREEДOM.

Nauseda emphasized that this would be an important signal for Ukraine, also highlighting the importance of ensuring security for the country.

'This would be a very important signal for Ukraine. We must include it in the negotiation process by establishing a specific timeline for EU membership - 2030. Support from the USA and the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces in Ukraine have always been key conditions. After the meeting in Washington, this prospect looks quite real. In addition, it is necessary to achieve accountability from Russia for the aggressive war it started against Ukraine. We must adopt the 19th sanctions package as soon as possible. There will be no just and lasting peace if Russia remains unpunished. Frozen Russian assets must be directed towards Ukraine's needs,' Nauseda stated.

We remind that on August 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, during which they discussed the progress of Ukraine's path to EU membership and the European Union.
