NATO Chief's Remarks on Iran

According to Novyny.live: Amid rising regional tensions, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has indicated that the Alliance could invoke its mutual defense clause, Article 5, against Iran. He stressed that NATO members support the campaign by U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at containing Iran's nuclear capabilities.

In an interview with Newsmax, Rutte stated that NATO forces are prepared to defend Alliance territory. The Secretary General also highlighted a missile attack threat against Turkey, which was successfully intercepted by NATO's missile defense systems.

"As NATO, we are currently doing everything possible to protect every inch of NATO territory."

He added that NATO has 'strong reasons to always maintain ambiguity about precisely when Article 5 would be triggered,' underscoring the Alliance's serious approach to security matters.

"Our Supreme Allied Commander, our senior military leaders, and, of course, all our men and women in uniform, we guarantee that we can and will defend every inch of NATO territory."

French Military Deployment

In a related development, French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to be deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, signaling increased military activity in the region. This move underscores NATO's readiness to respond to security challenges stemming from the escalating tensions surrounding Iran. The invocation of Article 5, a cornerstone of the Alliance, would mean an attack on one member is considered an attack on all.

The NATO Secretary General's statements point to a hardening of the Alliance's military posture in response to threats from Iran, which could have serious implications for regional security. France's decision to move its carrier further demonstrates European allies' solidarity within NATO. This collective military posture could lead to further escalation if tensions are not reduced through diplomatic channels.
