SBU investigates underground school in Kyiv monastery: children were taught using Soviet textbooks

According to ТСН: The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine is responding to information about the discovery of an underground educational institution in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, located within the UOC-MP monastery, where children are raised in the spirit of Soviet ideology. A pre-trial investigation has been launched.

The investigators of the Main Directorate of the SBU in Kyiv and the Kyiv region have initiated a pre-trial investigation under the article related to the manufacture, distribution, and public use of symbols of the Communist totalitarian regime, as well as the public performance of the USSR anthem.

This became possible due to data from a journalistic investigation regarding the activities of the underground educational institution in the monastery. According to media information, children in this school are taught using Soviet textbooks and are involved in singing Soviet songs.

The law enforcement agencies are establishing the circumstances of the creation and functioning of this school, checking whether the children attended state educational institutions, where they were supposed to be officially enrolled, and are also investigating the sources of funding for the activities of the institution within the territory of the monastery.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and all discovered facts will be legally assessed according to criminal legislation requirements.

What is known about the underground school in the UOC-MP monastery

In Kyiv, at the Holosiivskyi monastery of the UOC-MP, journalists uncovered an underground school where more than 60 children are taught using Soviet textbooks and promote the ideas of the “Russian world”. The institution teaches the Russian language under the guise of “Slavic”, sings Soviet songs, and watches propaganda films from the Russian Federation. The director Anna Bolgova openly expresses sympathy for the aggressor country. The school operates illegally, masquerading as a “family club”: children are fictitiously enrolled in the lists of students of official lyceums such as Khotianivskyi, where they are simply given grades. Despite monthly contributions from parents of 3000 UAH, experts suggest the possibility of significant external funding.

The SBU reported that it has initiated a criminal proceeding regarding the activities of the illegal school within the territory of the “Holosiivska pustyn” UOC-MP monastery. The State Service for Quality of Education is also preparing to check the facts mentioned by journalists. Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi noted that the existence of a “Russian world” center in the capital poses a direct threat to national security and instructed to verify institutions where children are fictitiously listed. Strict measures await the organizers and educators, and all materials will be forwarded to law enforcement for assessment of potential subversive activities.

Thus, the situation with the underground school raises concern among law enforcement and educators, indicating a serious issue of ideological influence on children. The state’s efforts are aimed at identifying and punishing those who attempt to undermine national security through education in unacceptable conditions.
