Fuel Tanker and Oil Depot Engulfed in Flames After Overnight Drone Strike on Russia; Explosions Reported in Crimea.
Russia Targeted by Massive Drone Attack on May 30
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of May 30, 2023, Russia faced a large-scale drone assault that inflicted damage across multiple regions, including Crimea. The operation began just after midnight and continued until approximately 5 a.m. local time. Yuri Slyusar, the governor of the Rostov region, acknowledged the attack and confirmed structural damage.
Within the port area of Taganrog, a tanker, a fuel storage tank, and an administrative building caught fire.
“As a result of a UAV attack on the port in Taganrog, a tanker, a fuel reservoir, and an administrative building ignited. According to preliminary reports, there are no casualties. The information is being clarified,” stated Yuri Slyusar.
Additionally, the 'Southern Oil Company' depot in Armavir, located in the Krasnodar region, was struck. Explosions also reverberated in Feodosia, a city in temporarily occupied Ukraine. This incident follows recent operations by Ukrainian forces:
- On May 27, 2023, Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeted the Tuapse oil refinery;
- On May 28, a drone struck the regional courthouse in Nizhny Novgorod after Russian electronic warfare systems interfered.
This drone offensive marks another chapter in the escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine, now spanning over a year. It highlights the increasing reliance on unmanned aerial vehicles in military operations and their transformative impact on both sides' strategies. The damage to critical infrastructure deep inside Russia underscores Ukraine’s ability to strike far beyond the front lines, potentially reshaping regional security dynamics.
