Overnight Drone Strikes Hit Crimea: Explosions Rock Simferopol, Fire Breaks Out Near Power Plant.
Massive Blasts in Crimea on June 12
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of June 12, the temporarily occupied city of Simferopol and other parts of Crimea were hit by a large-scale drone attack, triggering explosions and a fire near a local thermal power plant. The unmanned aerial assault began around midnight, and by approximately 12:20 a.m., a series of powerful blasts echoed through Simferopol.
During the attack, half of the Russian anti-aircraft missiles launched malfunctioned, pointing to potential weaknesses in their air defense systems. In Simferopol, either a direct hit or the impact of large debris from a downed drone was recorded. Heavy gunfire was reported in the Krasnogvardiysky and Nizhnegorsky districts, while the area around the Saky military airbase also came under fire.
Economic Fallout and Rising Social Tensions
In Gvardiyske, a power outage lasting from 12:25 a.m. to 1:26 a.m. caused significant inconvenience for local residents. Meanwhile, in Sevastopol, the occupation authorities imposed a limit of 20 liters of gasoline per purchase using special coupons. Restrictions were also introduced on essential goods, now capped at three items per person.
These developments highlight the escalating situation in Crimea and raise serious concerns about civilian safety amid ongoing military operations.
The explosions in Crimea come amid heightened conflict in the region, signaling a possible intensification of military activity.
Failures in air defense systems reveal potential vulnerabilities in Russia's defensive capabilities, which could shape the trajectory of the conflict. The imposition of fuel and goods rationing underscores economic strain and instability, likely fueling social unrest among the local population.
