Attacks on Nikopol
According to UATV: Russian forces continue to shell the city of Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, wounding civilians. On May 23, 2023, an artillery barrage hit the city, leaving several people injured. Around 20 shells were fired, striking a residential neighborhood.
Among the victims were Anna and her husband, both of whom suffered severe wounds and are now receiving hospital treatment. Medical staff report that the couple has undergone multiple surgeries and blood transfusions. Anna's 4-year-old son, Sasha, also sustained shrapnel injuries. Reflecting on the horrific events, Anna shared her thoughts:
“We are glad we survived. Because when we think back to that evening, I have no idea how we made it out alive.”
Current Situation in Nikopol
The situation in Nikopol remains dire. Doctors note that Anna will require further surgeries, and her condition is serious. In response to these attacks, the evacuation of civilians from front-line areas of the Dnipropetrovsk region is ongoing.
The shelling of Nikopol reflects an escalation on the front lines, leading to more civilian casualties. Local authorities are actively working to ensure the safety of residents by organizing evacuations from dangerous zones. These events underscore the severity of the humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine, where the conflict continues to harm the lives and health of innocent civilians.
