German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rejected US President Donald Trump's demand for defense spending of 5% of GDP.
According to Pistorius, Germany cannot afford such defense spending.
Five percent of our economic capacity would correspond to 42% of the federal budget - that is almost every second euro spent by the federal government, 230 billion euros. We will not be able to handle this or spend such funds.
At the same time, the German Defense Minister emphasized that NATO countries cannot accept such a figure without discussion among themselves.
Pistorius also noted that the need for increased investment in defense is obvious.
Let us remind you that Zelensky explained what military assistance Ukraine will receive from Germany.
