Norway to purchase air defense systems for Ukraine worth over €86 million.
The Norwegian government has decided to acquire air defense systems for Ukraine worth 1.2 billion crowns. According to the government press service, the weaponry will be purchased from the United States.
«Europe needs to do more for Ukraine, and Norway supports it. Air defense is a priority request from the Ukrainian side that is critically important for the protection of both military and civilian infrastructure and the population,» said Norway's Defense Minister Tore Onshuus Sandvik.
In 2024, Norway provided Ukraine with air defense systems worth over 6 billion crowns. Earlier, the Norwegian government presented a concept for preparing the country in case of armed conflict with Russia, emphasizing the need to create a culture of readiness for war among the population. According to this concept, defense plans encompass all sectors - society, public administration, and the economy.
The priority for the Norwegian government now is to increase the size of the army and attract more recruits. The police and other civil force structures will also be strengthened.
