New ETOP Battery Platform: Electric Vehicle Range to Increase by 50%

According to Korrespondent.net: The American company 24M Technologies has introduced a new platform for battery production that reduces costs and provides a 50% greater driving range. This technology is called ETOP (Electrode-to-Pack). It involves sealing each electrode in a thin polymer film and integrating it directly into the battery pack.

Advantages of the New Technology

Thanks to this methodology, there is no need for traditional construction with separate cells and modules, and the use of metal and plastic during assembly is reduced. This allows the new battery packs to have a higher energy density at the same size. In classic batteries, electrodes occupy 30% to 60% of the volume, while in ETOP, this figure can reach 80%.

Production and Prospects

The company claims that this new development could make battery production in the USA more accessible and flexible, enabling American automotive giants to compete with Asian manufacturers. The entire manufacturing process takes place on one machine: the electrodes are sealed, assembled into a block, wiring is connected, and it is sealed. ETOP is suitable for NMC, LFP, NCA, sodium, and conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Although the technology has not yet entered the commercial market, the company stated that in the coming months one of the leading automakers will receive the first prototypes for testing in real conditions. In addition to the automotive industry, 24M is negotiating with the aviation sector and in the fields of electric mobility and energy savings to implement ETOP in their production processes.

It should be noted that it was previously reported that Huawei patented a new generation solid-state battery for electric vehicles.
