Volkswagen launches new electric car in China: details of the joint project with XPeng.
According to Korrespondent.net: Volkswagen expands its electric vehicle lineup in China, preparing a new sedan that it is working on together with Chinese manufacturer XPeng. This is the result of a strategic partnership initiated last year, which involves the development of a new electronic architecture for future Volkswagen models – from electric to hybrid and gasoline cars.
Details about the new electric sedan
The prototype of this model is already undergoing testing on the roads of China, although the official name is still unknown. It is likely to be part of the Volkswagen ID electric lineup and will share common features with the second-generation XPeng P7 sedan, which was unveiled a few months ago. The design also embodies elements of the ID. Aura and ID. Evo concepts presented earlier this year.

According to witnesses, the new electric sedan has streamlined shapes and a sporty profile: narrow split LED headlights, a illuminated VW logo on the front, smooth body lines, and a high rear with original LED taillights. It looks more dynamic than most VW models sold in Western markets.
Technical specifications
The technical details have yet to be confirmed, but if the model is indeed based on the XPeng P7, two battery options are expected – 74.9 kWh and 92.9 kWh – with power ranging from 362 to 586 hp depending on the version. The range could reach up to 820 km, and the most powerful version will accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
For Volkswagen, this project holds great strategic significance. The company is actively strengthening its position in the Chinese market, planning to release over 30 new models, including 20 electrified ones. The joint architecture with XPeng will not only provide 'over-the-air updates' but also reduce the time it takes to develop new cars, allowing for quicker responses to consumer needs.
In addition to collaborating with XPeng, VW continues to develop its joint ventures FAW-Volkswagen and Volkswagen Anhui to strengthen its position in China – a key market increasingly shaping the future of the global automotive industry.
It was previously reported that Volkswagen will release a farewell version of the Touareg before the end of production.
