Nvidia stops supporting popular graphics cards: what will happen to GTX.
Nvidia has officially announced that it will stop supporting graphics cards based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures after the release of the 580 driver series.
This became known from the schedule of discontinuation of Unix drivers published by Nvidia. Although it officially pertains to Linux systems, analysts are confident that it will also affect Windows drivers since Nvidia uses a single codebase for all platforms.
'The 580 driver series will be the last to support GPUs based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures,' Nvidia stated.
After transitioning to the 590 branch, only some GTX models based on the Turing architecture (i.e., GTX 1600 series) will receive new drivers. RTX 2000 and newer will remain supported.
Users still using old GTX graphics cards should prepare for a lack of security updates, system optimizations, and support for new games.
At the time of writing, the current driver version is GeForce 576.80 WHQL, so there are still a few updates before the 580 series.
Reports that Nvidia will stop supporting graphics cards based on Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures after the 580 driver series mean that users of older NVIDIA graphics card models will have to prepare for their devices not receiving security updates or support for new features in the future. Thus, the company is directing users' attention towards new graphics card models that will continue to receive support from the manufacturer.It was previously reported that Nvidia introduced the most affordable graphics card of the new generation.
