Aftermath of the July 2 Russian Attack on Kyiv Zoo

According to Novyny.live: Kyrylo Trantin, director of the Kyiv Zoo, provided an update on the facility’s condition following a Russian strike on the capital during the night of July 2. The assault shattered roughly 40 glass doors and windows and also inflicted harm on the animals. The zoo’s terrarium suffered the most severe damage.

Veterinarians have already examined some animals, including a turtle, and confirmed that it is doing well. However, Trantin stated that other animals require closer monitoring over time.

“We have about a week to assess what has happened, because it’s a bit harder with animals than with people—you need to observe and watch their natural behavior,” the zoo director noted.

Trantin added that the crocodile presents a more challenging case.

“The crocodile is trickier because it’s an aggressive animal. We’ve decided not to disturb it for a few days and just observe,” he explained.
According to Trantin, restoring the zoo’s operations will take roughly a week.

It is worth recalling that the Russian attack claimed 27 lives. The situation at the Kyiv Zoo remains under control, with management doing everything possible to ensure animal safety and resume normal operations.

This incident highlights not only the destructive impact of military actions on infrastructure but also on the lives of animals that require special care and attention. Reopening the zoo is vital for the local community, as it serves not just as a place of recreation but also for education and species conservation. The zoo’s leadership continues to take steps to secure the animals’ well-being while Kyiv remains in a state of armed conflict.

It is important to monitor further developments at the zoo and their effects on the city’s ecosystem.
