Russian Forces Deliberately Strike Konotop Hospital While Civilians Were Present.
Konotop Hospital Comes Under Fire
According to Espreso.tv: On June 1, Russian military forces carried out an attack on a hospital in the city of Konotop. According to Mayor Artem Semenikhin, one man was injured and suffered acoustic trauma, but a larger tragedy was avoided. At the time of the strike, many civilians were visiting the facility.
Artem Semenikhin: 'Today marks yet another war crime committed by the Russians against the Ukrainian people.'
The mayor emphasized that the hospital was hit intentionally, pointing out that city council staff were present on the hospital grounds when the attack occurred. 'I state that this was deliberate because city council employees were exactly at the hospital premises at that moment,' he added.
Broader Attack Pattern
The shelling in Konotop was part of a wider wave of assaults that same day, with strikes also reported in Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv Oblast, and Sumy Oblast. This pattern highlights the continued aggression by Russian forces targeting Ukrainian territory. Semenikhin underscored the gravity of the situation, stating: 'This is another crime by the Russians—I emphasize, they are doing this on purpose.'
Despite the attack, the hospital remains operational, and medical staff continue to treat civilians. Local authorities urge residents to remain cautious as tensions stay high.
The Konotop hospital attack fits into a larger strategy of Russian aggression aimed at civilian infrastructure across Ukraine. While hospital workers and city officials strive to maintain essential services, repeated strikes endanger lives and undermine public safety. These events underscore the urgent need for a strong international response to war crimes committed during the conflict. Moreover, such attacks heighten anxiety among local populations, reinforcing a pervasive sense of danger in regions frequently subjected to shelling.
