Odesa Attack Toll Rises to Seven as Residential Buildings Are Damaged.
Odesa Under Fire: Aftermath and Eyewitness Accounts
According to UATV: During the night of June 1, the Russian military launched multiple strikes on Odesa using dozens of attack drones, leaving at least seven people injured. The assault caused significant damage to both civilian and industrial infrastructure across the city.
A multi-story residential building suffered extensive damage on its first and second floors. Two single-story homes were also severely damaged and caught fire. Residents described the situation as dire.
“We were sleeping when our neighbors woke us up. Something hit the stairwell. We grabbed the children and ran outside. The whole entrance was filled with smoke,” said Tetyana, an eyewitness.
Another resident, Olena Petrovna, shared her experience: “Thank God I went away for the weekend to visit relatives. Otherwise, the ceiling would have fallen on me, and the closet was completely destroyed. A neighbor called me at night and said everything was on fire.” These accounts illustrate the scale of the destruction and the terror endured by the community.
Regional Situation
The attack on Odesa once again highlights the ongoing tension in the region and the severe risks faced by civilians amid hostilities.
This strike is part of the broader escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, underscoring the dangers for non-combatants in active war zones. Damage to infrastructure not only threatens residents' safety but also disrupts daily life, as restoring housing and utilities may take a long time. The situation in Odesa reflects the general trend of escalating violence in the area, raising concern within the international community.
