According to Novyny.live: Odesa’s Cheryomushki Market is experiencing a surge in demand as the summer vegetable season draws in returning customers. Vendors report a noticeable rise in foot traffic, with shoppers actively buying fresh produce. The market now offers a wide selection of vegetables grown in Ukraine.
Vegetable Prices Vary by Type and Origin
Prices differ based on variety, source, and supply volumes. For example, tomatoes range from 150 to 230 UAH per kilogram. The 'Primadonna' variety from Izmail costs 180 UAH per kilogram, pink tomatoes are also 180 UAH, while 'Madrid' tomatoes sell for 220 UAH per kilogram. Cucumbers are priced between 40 and 50 UAH per kilogram, zucchini at 40–45 UAH per kilogram, and potatoes from 35 to 60 UAH per kilogram.
Other vegetable prices are as follows:
- White cabbage — 35 UAH per kilogram
- Carrots — 50–80 UAH
- Beets — 30 UAH
- Onions — 30 UAH
- Young garlic — 250 UAH
- Eggplants — 130 UAH
- Peppers — 160–180 UAH
- Cauliflower — 80 UAH per kilogram
- Broccoli — 100 UAH per kilogram
- Asparagus — 350 UAH per kilogram
Vendors attribute the price shifts to the transition between harvest cycles.
“People have started buying more, many have returned for the summer,” says Larisa, a vendor.Another seller, Svetlana, adds:
“Almost everything is Ukrainian now. Young potatoes with dill, homemade salads, cucumbers, and tomatoes are selling well.”Market activity highlights a revival in trade and strong demand for fresh produce, typical of the summer season.
The increased demand for fresh vegetables in Odesa mirrors broader summer consumption trends, as shoppers return to markets for natural, locally grown foods. Prices may fluctuate during harvest transitions, a normal pattern in agriculture. This also underscores the role of local farming in supplying fresh produce during peak season.
