Spain prepares for peacekeeping mission in Ukraine: what Sánchez announced

According to ТСН: Madrid is considering the possibility of involving Spanish armed forces in an international peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated during a press conference in Paris that Spain, as an influential European country, aims to actively participate in stabilization processes after achieving peace. He emphasized that Spain's role will not only be in humanitarian contributions to infrastructure recovery but also in integrating military capabilities to support peacekeeping efforts.

Military presence in Europe

Sánchez noted that the participation of Spanish military in missions in remote corners of the world demonstrates that their presence in Europe to ensure peace is absolutely logical and necessary.

Negotiations with political leaders

The Prime Minister reported that a series of negotiations with leaders of most parliamentary groups, except for the Vox party, will begin next Monday to agree on Spain's position regarding contributions to ensuring the security of Ukraine. Previously, the Spanish authorities considered the issue of sending troops premature, but now Sánchez shows a more decisive approach, considering 2026 as a potential deadline for the end of the war.

Need for approval

He also added that the implementation of this plan will require official approval from the Congress of Deputies of Spain, and the government promises to inform Parliament of all agreements as soon as they take on specific forms. The discussion now focuses on preparing for Spain's participation in international security guarantees after hostilities cease.

It should be noted that a meeting of about 40 world leaders and top EU officials took place earlier in Paris to discuss the conditions for ending the conflict in Ukraine. Despite the involvement of the USA in the negotiations, the final declaration was signed only by European allies of Ukraine.

These steps reflect Spain's growing readiness to engage more actively in restoring peace in Ukraine. Considering Spain's status in Europe and the potential implications for regional security, the country's participation in peacekeeping efforts could become an important milestone in stabilizing the situation in Ukraine.
