Official: Ukrainian journalist Viktoriya Roshchyna died in Russian captivity.


Information about the death of journalist Viktoriya Roshchyna in captivity in Russia has been confirmed. This was reported by the head of the press service of the Coordination Headquarters, Petro Yatsenko.
According to Yatsenko, it is too early to discuss the details of the death, work is being done to establish the circumstances. It is known that Roshchyna was preparing for an exchange and was on the territory of Russia.
Roshchyna was detained on March 16, 2022, when she was in Berdyansk, which was occupied by Russian representatives. However, on March 22, she was released by Russian military personnel and was forced to record a video message in which she rejected claims against Russian special services.
Gallery blockLater, Viktoriya's father, Volodymyr Roshchyn, received a letter from the Russian Ministry of Defense, admitting the detention of the journalist. Roshchyna's relatives had previously appealed to the occupation prosecutor's office of Mariupol regarding this issue.
Viktoriya Roshchyna went missing on August 3, 2023, in occupied territory where she was traveling from Ukraine. Relatives last communicated with her on that day when she reported passing through border checks but did not specify her exact locations. A missing person report was filed with Ukrainian law enforcement on August 12.

Russian troops admitted holding the journalist but did not disclose more details. Ukrainian journalists have become frequent targets of Russian shelling and attacks. During the war, at least 50 media workers were killed, with the fate of some still unknown.
