The occupants have approached the settlements of Velyka Novosilka and Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region, report analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Velyka Novosilka

Russian troops are continuing their advance east towards Velyka Novosilka and may soon occupy this populated area. However, due to the presence of several rivers near Velyka Novosilka, it will be difficult for Russian forces to continue their movement. They will also have to look for ways to cross the rivers, complicating their movement. Historically, Russian troops have always found it difficult to cross rivers. Tactical features of the terrain, such as rivers and steppes, hinder the capture of Velyka Novosilka and may prevent Russian troops from achieving significant success in the western part of Donetsk region.

Russian military bloggers claim they have already advanced to Velyka Novosilka, but the Institute for the Study of War has not confirmed this information.

Chasiv Yar

Russian forces recently continued their offensive towards Chasiv Yar. According to Russian sources, they have captured the Chasiv Yar refractory plant, but this information has not been confirmed by ISW.

Russian troops continue to attack to the north of Chasiv Yar and to the south near Stupochki and Bilya Hora.

Donetsk region

On January 18, Russian troops continued to attack to the northeast of Siversk. They are also advancing to the northeast of Toretsk and southwest of Kurakhove, but have not made significant progress.

Kursk region

The occupants continue to advance towards the Ukrainian bulge in the Kursk region. However, Russian troops have not been able to achieve success in this area.

Kharkiv region

Ukrainian forces successfully repelled positions north of Kharkiv from Russian troops.

Luhansk region

In the fighting in the Kupiansk and Borova directions, Russian troops have not made significant advances. However, the enemy continues to carry out limited attacks in these areas.

South

The occupants continue ground attacks north of Robotyne but are not achieving success. They are also attacking in the Dnipro direction, but also without results.

During the past day, there were 176 combat clashes, with the majority occurring in the Pokrovsk direction.

Ukrainian defenders continue to bravely resist the enemy and deliver fire strikes against them.
