Now, passengers are only allowed to bring one portable battery with a maximum capacity of 100Wh. The use to charge devices, such as mobile phones during flight, is prohibited, as is charging the battery at the aircraft's outlets. Batteries must be stored in the seat pockets or under the seat, not in the overhead compartments.

„The use of any type of portable batteries is prohibited on Emirates flights. Emirates offers seat charging stations on all aircraft, but recommends passengers fully charge their devices before the flight, especially on long-haul flights.”

The new rules are a response to an incident where a portable battery caught fire onboard an Air Busan flight in South Korea. Although passengers were able to evacuate, the aircraft was grounded due to significant damage.

British airlines like British Airways and Ryanair currently have no similar rules.
