Orban against Ukraine's EU membership: Hungary blocks key initiatives.
According to inkorr.com: Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has openly opposed Ukraine's accession to the European Union. In his interview on the state radio 'Kossuth', he mentioned that Hungarians do not want to be in the same union with Ukrainians as they do not wish to share their 'difficult fate'.
'Hungarians do not want to be in the same European Union with Ukrainians. If you are with someone in a federal arrangement, you share their fate, and Ukraine is a country with a very complicated fate. Why should we share this complicated fate?' - said Orban.
Orban also emphasized that Hungary's future should be different from that of Ukraine: 'We feel sorry for them, we sympathize, they are fighting heroically, we must support them, but we do not want to share a common fate with them.'
Hungary blocks EU initiatives regarding Ukraine
Hungary is stalling a number of important European Union initiatives related to Ukraine, particularly opposing the provision of 'reparatory loans' to Kyiv from frozen Russian assets.
According to European media, during an informal summit in Denmark, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sharply criticized Orban for his destructive position, which complicates the discussion of strategically important issues for the EU.
Earlier, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated that Orban 'remains captive to Russian propaganda.'
The views expressed by Viktor Orban on Ukraine's accession to the European Union and the blocking of EU initiatives create tension in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations and may negatively impact diplomatic ties within the European Union.
