Tragedy of a Korean woman in Egypt: family disagrees with police version

According to The Sun: The family of the tourist who died in a horrific situation is shocked by messages she sent before her death, and they oppose the police who claim her death was an accident.

24-year-old Ivonna Daniela Latorre disappeared at the Zamna electronic music festival in Cairo, Egypt, where she had gone with her friend, Colombian beauty Estefania Bedoya. Days later, she was found unconscious with critical injuries.

Newsflash

Ivonna was found with serious injuries days after meeting men who posed as producers and promised the girls a career as stars.

She died five days after the incident, having sent her parents alarming messages that were unexplained. Egyptian officials classified the case as an accident, however, the girl's parents vehemently denied this version.

“My daughter's life was taken, both directly and through her feeling of desperation,” stated her father Tito.

Ivonna disappeared on the night of April 27 after going to an after-party with Estefania and transgender woman Jessie Escobar. Surveillance footage showed she had a conflict with Jessie at a gas station shortly before her disappearance.

A few hours later, she was found unconscious and partially unclothed on the roof of a high-rise building. She sustained numerous serious injuries, including a pneumothorax.

“They want to do something to me. They want to kidnap me,” she wrote in her last messages.

Ivonna's family has reached out to human rights organizations and initiated fundraising to bring her body back home and investigate the causes of her death. They also question why Estefania did not inform them about Ivonna’s disappearance despite regular contact with her family.

They filed a murder complaint in Colombia on June 14, and prosecutors there opened a new investigation.

Newsflash Ivonna Latorre's death highlights the risks young women may face when traveling, as well as the importance of safety at large-scale events. The family is trying to shed light on the circumstances that led to the tragedy and seek justice for their daughter. The prosecutor's investigation may provide new details and hopes for a fair resolution to this bitter story.
