What Lies Ahead for Russia? Pifer Explains How the War in Ukraine Has Transformed.
The Shifting Nature of the Conflict Between Ukraine and Russia
According to Espreso.tv: In a recent interview, former U.S. diplomat Steven Pifer shared his assessment of how the war between Ukraine and Russia has evolved, describing it as a conflict that has now become a war of attrition. He pointed out that due to the resilience of Ukraine’s defenses, Moscow has been forced to wage an entirely different kind of campaign. Pifer also highlighted that over the past month, Ukraine has demonstrated a growing ability to conduct medium-range strikes, a sign of the increasing military effectiveness of its armed forces.
The diplomat also addressed China’s support for Russia, which he said helps compensate for shortages of certain high-tech components.
“This is a very important factor,” Pifer noted, underscoring the complexity of the situation. He expressed optimism that as economic pressure on Russia intensifies, President Vladimir Putin will eventually be confronted with difficult choices.
Ukraine’s Participation in the NATO Summit
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine will take part in the NATO summit scheduled for July 7–8 in Ankara. This event could mark a significant milestone in international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war. Ukraine’s involvement signals its determination to strengthen ties with global partners and continue its fight for independence and territorial integrity.
Pifer’s comments underscore the shifting strategic landscape on the battlefield, where Ukraine’s resilience is creating new challenges for Russia. The role of Chinese assistance in bolstering Russia’s military technology could also shape the conflict’s future trajectory. Ukraine’s attendance at the NATO summit in Ankara reflects a surge in international backing, potentially strengthening Kyiv’s political position and supporting its ongoing struggle for sovereignty. This highlights the critical role of global cooperation in addressing today’s security threats and defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
