Pentagon Warns of Iran Leadership Crisis: New Supreme Leader Injured Following Strike on Iraqi Base.
US Defense Secretary Voices Alarm Over Iran's Turmoil
According to UATV: On March 13, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed serious concern about a leadership crisis in Iran during a press briefing. He stated that Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is believed to have been wounded. Hegseth described the current Iranian leadership as desperate and noted that it has 'gone into hiding' from public view.
The Secretary also reported a recent Iranian attack on a military base in Iraq, which is jointly used by France and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The assault resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to at least six others. Hegseth further questioned the transparency of Iran’s leadership, saying:
“Iran is full of cameras and recorders, so why only a written statement?”
International Reactions and Broader Implications
These developments have raised alarms within the international community, as Iran’s leadership actions could carry significant consequences for both domestic and foreign policy. With potential shifts in Iran’s top leadership and rising regional tensions, the situation demands close monitoring. The responses of global powers may shape the future of diplomacy and security across the Middle East, affecting stability far beyond Iran’s borders.
