Ukraine Sees Progress as Russia Adopts New Negotiating Format.
A Shift in Negotiating Format with Russia
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has described recent changes to the negotiation format with the Russian Federation as constructive. This shift stems from Russia's new approach to forming its delegation, which now includes representatives from its military bloc and intelligence services. The next round of talks is scheduled for February 4-5, 2026, in Abu Dhabi.
Russia's delegation will be led by Igor Kostyukov. Minister Sybiha noted that this stage of negotiations proved more productive, partly because the Russian side refrained from propagandistic statements, which helped foster a more constructive atmosphere. He also emphasized that the new delegation's composition avoided the delivery of pseudo-lectures, further improving the tone of the discussions. These talks are a rare diplomatic channel that remains open amid the ongoing conflict.
Primary Discussion Areas
The key areas of discussion at the negotiations are the politico-diplomatic and military tracks. Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine views these format changes as a genuine step forward, opening new possibilities for further dialogue between the two sides.
The altered format suggests the potential for more productive dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, which could have significant implications for the future development of the regional situation. The inclusion of new representatives in the negotiation process may encourage a more constructive approach and a reduction in tensions, potentially positively influencing stability in the bilateral relationship.
