New Peugeot 208: The Polygon Concept Shows the Future of the Brand

According to Korrespondent.net: Peugeot has presented the Polygon concept, which impresses with its futuristic design and new technologies for the updated 208 model. The manufacturer notes that this is not just an experiment, but an illustration of a complete rethinking of design principles and automobile production.

While the current Peugeot lineup already has a recognizable style, the Polygon demonstrates even bolder design decisions. The images feature a compact car with a sharply sloped windshield, wide wheel arches, and a dynamic silhouette that resembles a sports car rather than a city hatchback.

Some elements of Peugeot's heritage remain: the triangular central pillar of the body and the oval emblems remind of the legendary 205 model. However, this is where the similarity to the classic ends. The Polygon has a smooth front without a grille, indicating its electric nature, while the partially glazed roof creates a sense of transparency and space, although it is unlikely these features will appear in the production version.

One of the key innovations is the steer-by-wire system - an electronic control system that eliminates the traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Peugeot emphasizes that this system will become 'the central element of future driving enjoyment' in the brand's new models.

The steering wheel of the Polygon features a rectangular Hypersquare shape with four holes, first introduced on a Peugeot concept in 2023.

Expectations for the Production Model

The production-ready Peugeot 208 of the new generation, expected to launch at the end of 2026, will be based on the STLA Small platform, shared among the brands of the Stellantis group. The new Opel Corsa is also being built on this same architecture.

The Polygon will also feature an 82 kWh battery, which is a significant upgrade compared to the 52 kWh battery in the current e-208.

The full presentation of the Peugeot Polygon is scheduled for next week when the company will reveal specifications and plans for the new generation of the 208 model, set to become a vehicle of the new era of electric mobility.

Recent industry news indicates a rapid development of electric vehicles and innovative technologies in the automotive sector. While Peugeot is introducing its innovations, other manufacturers like Mitsubishi and Honda are also heading towards futuristic concepts. This showcases global trends and competition for leadership in the world of clean energy.
