After speaking with Xi Jinping, Trump announced an unexpected decision.
The newly elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, plans to visit China after taking office. Despite his tough rhetoric towards Beijing during the campaign, Trump wishes to establish a direct dialogue with the Chinese leadership.
He has already had a phone conversation with the head of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, during which the participants discussed trade issues, the fentanyl problem, and the situation with TikTok. Trump invited Xi Jinping to his inauguration, but the Chinese leader delegated his vice president.
To change relations with the country, dialogue is essential
After the inauguration, Trump is considering visiting India and meeting with its Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with whom he has friendly relations.
Personal relations with Xi Jinping
Trump's advisors believe that personal relations with Xi Jinping are a key element of US-China relations. During his first presidential term, Trump invited the Chinese leader to his Mar-a-Lago estate and made a visit to Beijing, during which the leaders of the two countries visited the Forbidden City.
The Chinese side has also expressed readiness for dialogue. Xi Jinping congratulated Trump on his election victory and emphasized the need to find a way for coexistence in a new era for the prosperity of both countries.
It should be noted that TikTok was completely blocked in the US before Trump's inauguration.
